New group term life and short- and long-term disability products join accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity coverage to protect employees’ income and fill gaps in major medical plans
CHICAGO, October 7, 2026 – BCS Financial today announces the launch of group term life and short- and long-term disability insurance through BCS EssentialCare. These lines join EssentialCare’s accident, critical illness, and hospital indemnity products, giving brokers one carrier for the financial protection employees need when illness, injury, or loss disrupts their paycheck.
EssentialCare solutions aim to fill a gap many benefit programs still leave open, as health insurance covers medical bills, but it does not replace lost income or cover the out-of-pocket costs that can keep employees from getting the care they need. Expanding EssentialCare advances BCS’s mission to make healthcare more accessible and affordable by protecting the finances that make care possible.
“Health insurance pays the hospital. It doesn’t pay the house payment when someone can’t work,” said Drew Neslin, Head of Supplemental Solutions at BCS. “Brokers hear about that gap from clients every renewal. With life and disability now part of EssentialCare, they can close it with a single carrier instead of piecing together multiple vendors.”
Life and disability coverage built for the workforce
EssentialCare group term life offers basic, supplemental, and voluntary options for employees, spouses, and children. Available features include simplified enrollment, competitive group rates, accelerated death benefits for terminal illness, and accidental death and dismemberment coverage. Life policies also include emergency medical transport and international travel assistance, and empathy services to help families with grief support, funeral and estate planning, and obituary assistance.
Short-term disability replaces a portion of an employee’s income for a limited period following a covered disability. Long-term disability extends that protection once the short-term period or an elected waiting period ends. Plans can be tailored to an employer’s workforce and include return-to-work and rehabilitation support.
What sets EssentialCare apart
EssentialCare’s critical illness coverage includes riders for gene therapy and severe mental illness, both firsts in the market. EssentialPay automates claims on eligible benefits, so employees receive payments without filing paperwork. With life and disability added, brokers can now place a complete supplemental program with one carrier.
“Supplemental benefits only deliver value when employees actually use them,” added Neslin. “EssentialCare features, including our first-in-market critical illness riders and EssentialPay claims integration, gives brokers something new to bring to their clients, not another version of the same product.”
EssentialCare hospital indemnity, critical illness and accidental injury insurance policies are underwritten by BCS Insurance Company. EssentialCare term life and disability policies are underwritten by 4 Ever Life Insurance Company. Product features and availability vary by state, and some products may be pending regularoty approval in certain states.
