This month, BCS team member Jennifer Mark shares a peek into her role as Finance Analyst.
Q: Describe your/your team’s role at BCS.
A: My team’s main responsibilities are GAAP financial reporting, investments, and federal and state taxes. My primary focus is on GAAP financial reporting. I book or review the activity of some of our investments, expense accruals and fixed assets. I consolidate the financials of the entities under BCS Financial and prepare the Board financials quarterly.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: There’s always something new to keep it interesting. My latest project was incorporating MRM into our financials.
Q: What is one professional development skill you are working on?
A: I am working to learn new technology and skills to build better reports and automate tasks. I’ve been writing macros using Visual Basic to automate some excel tasks and it’s always gratifying when I can push a button to accomplish something that used to take me half an hour each month.
Q: How do you prefer to start your day?
A: With a cup of tea
Q: What does Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AAPI) represent for you?
A: To me, AAPI Heritage Month acknowledges and brings visibility to the Americans of Asian and Pacific Islander descent that have contributed to this country and made it their home. It recognizes a diverse group of people with distinct traditions and experiences and I hope it inspires people to learn more about the community I grew up with and am a part of and we can celebrate both our differences and commonalities.
