“See Yourself in Cyber” During National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Since 2004, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA) have led a collaborative effort to raise cybersecurity awareness during the month of October. This year’s campaign theme is “See Yourself in Cyber”, which focuses on the “people” part of cybersecurity, and highlights four things each individual can do to help mitigate the risk of cyber attacks:

  1. Enable Multi-Factor Authentication
  2. Use Strong Passwords
  3. Recognize and Report Phishing
  4. Update Your Software

For small business owners, this message is especially poignant: A 2022 Data Breach Investigations Report from Verizon showed that 82% of data breaches involve human error! This means that the education you provide to your employees – and the steps they take to “see themselves in cyber” – can have a tremendous impact on your cybersecurity risk.

BCS believes strongly that prevention is a key component to mitigating cyber risk. Last year, BCS announced that small businesses who purchase BCS cyber liability insurance coverage (administered by RPS exclusively through www.RPSSmallBusiness.com) will have complimentary access to Paladin Cyber’s Paladin ShieldTM. Paladin ShieldTM provides a powerful cyber protection suite with continuous vulnerability monitoring and a suite of defense and training tools for teams. This prevention suite, alongside BCS’s insurance coverage, can help protect from the high costs and reputational damage of a privacy breach or other cyber-related incident.
